Refundable security deposits, held on the guest’s card

The deposit is its own payment step — never bundled with the tourist tax. Hold it on the card (pre-authorisation: reserved, not charged) or charge it and refund it after check-out; release it in full or keep part of it with a reason.

Departures with deposits ready to release

How it works

  • Card hold or payment, per property
  • Card, Revolut Pay, Apple Pay, Google Pay
  • Release in full or retain part with a reason — the guest is told automatically
  • Waive it for trusted guests

Into your own account

Payments run on your Revolut Business merchant account; card data never reaches the guest portal.

A worked example: hold, partial capture, release

A guest books four nights with a €300 deposit as a card hold. Three days before check-in the portal asks for the deposit; the guest approves €300 on the card — reserved, not charged. After check-out you see the booking under Departures.

  • Nothing to report: click Release in full — the hold is cancelled and the guest is never charged
  • A broken glass: choose Retain part, enter €25 and the reason — €25 is captured, the other €275 is released, and the guest receives an email with the reason
  • Either way the booking keeps a record of the amount, the reason, who decided and when

Longer stays and expiring holds

A card hold lasts 7 days, or 30 days if your Revolut account supports extended authorisation. Guests can therefore place it from 5 days before check-in (28 days with 30-day holds). If a hold would still expire before check-out, the guest is asked to place it again — or choose “charged, then refunded” for long stays, so the amount is taken at once and refunded after check-out.

Exceptions you control

Skip the deposit for a single booking, waive it for a trusted guest with a reason, or mark it as settled in cash. The portal unlocks as soon as every required step is done.

Frequently asked questions

How long can a deposit be held?

Usually 7 days; with Revolut’s extended authorisation up to 30 days. The portal asks for the deposit at the right moment before arrival.

Can I keep part of the deposit?

Yes — enter the amount and reason; the rest is released and the guest is informed.
