Guest languages and translations

The guest portal in English, German, Italian, French, Spanish, Dutch, Polish and Maltese — chosen automatically, with your guide texts translated automatically and editable by you.

The guest portal speaks eight languages: English, Deutsch, Italiano, Français, Español, Nederlands, Polski and Malti.

How the language is chosen #

• The portal opens in the language of the guest's phone or browser.
• If that language is not available it falls back to English.
• Guests can switch at any time with the language button at the top of the portal; the choice is remembered on that device.

Dates and amounts use the guest's format; Maltese dates are written in Maltese.

What is translated #

• Always — every screen, button and message of the portal, the check-in form, the payment steps, and Guestbud's standard texts (deposit and eco-contribution explanations, rubbish types, default tips).
• Your own texts — welcome message, arrival steps, Wi-Fi tips, house rules, local tips, extras and more — once translated automatically or by you.

Texts with no translation are shown in English.

Translate your guide #

1. Open Properties → Guide editor → Translations.
2. Choose a language. Each text is listed with its English original and a status:
3. Automatic — translated by the platform;
4. Edited by you — typed or corrected by you;
5. Built in — Guestbud's own translation of a standard text;
6. English changed — check — the English text changed since it was translated;
7. Not translated — shown in English.
8. Type or correct translations and click Save. Your own translations are never overwritten automatically.
9. Click Translate missing automatically (it shows how many are missing) to fill gaps (only when the platform operator has set up automatic translation).

When automatic translation is set up, new and changed texts are translated in the background each time you save the guide.

For platform operators #

Automatic translation is configured once for the platform under Admin → Translation: Google Cloud Translation, DeepL (no Maltese) or Anthropic Claude, with an API key that is stored encrypted.

Through the API #

GET/PUT /api/v1/properties/{id}/translations and POST /api/v1/properties/{id}/translations/auto. Send the header X-GP-Lang: de to receive the guest view in a language. See the API reference.

Frequently asked questions #

Which language should I write my guide in? #

English. Translations are made from your English texts.

Can I turn a language off? #

Not at the moment — guests always see Guestbud's own texts in their language; your texts stay in English until translated.
